We all know animal prints are the number one pattern trend this fall. Whether you mix and match, go head to toe or play with scale, you absolutely cannot go wrong with animal prints this autumn. But what other patterns are in? Almost, but not quite, as widely shown on the AW18 runways were two very different print trends. And they too are showing up in unexpected ways.
When we hear words like tweed, check, plaid, and herringbone we tend to think stuffy and conservative. Not this season! Designers are using traditional fabrics and patterns to create everything from asymmetrical dresses to sheer blouses to unexpected suits. When it comes to outerwear, the choices include boxy jackets, futuristic dusters, slouchy trenches, and even voluminous vests.
Traditionally a summer pattern, flowers have extended their stay right through autumn. And when it comes to fall florals, more is definitely better. From all over appliqued flowers to dramatic sheer dresses to wildly patterned tights, densely patterned florals in every possible fabric are the surprise print of the season. Fall florals also happen to look terrific paired with anything plaid or animal print.
