One of the best parts of changing seasons is the chance to refresh your wardrobe and create capsule collections. Fall is the perfect time to dig into your closet and refresh some of the chunky knits and layers that have been tucked away since the sun came out.
For the perfect fall capsule wardrobe, you need a few staples.
Chunky knit sweater. This layering piece is one of the most versatile transitional items in your closet. As the days get shorter and the night air gets a little chill, a chunky sweater can be fashionable and functional. It can also be important as office temperatures fluctuate between seasons, not quite enough to turn on the heat but still too chilly to sit at your desk comfortably.
White T-shirt. Now that it’s after Labor Day, the wise old advice says you can’t wear white pants, but you certainly can — and should — wear a white T-shirt. This is another layering staple and works well from day to night, shopping with friends or a date night.
Scarf. Whether it’s just fashionable, like a pop of color, or provides actual warmth, scarves are one of the most ubiquitous signs of fall. (Well, scarves and Pumpkin Spice Lattes.)
Boots. We’re partial to ankle-high booties for fall. There are so many styles and colors that make even a T-shirt and jeans outfit seasonally appropriate. If you’re a boots beginner, try a stretchy Chelsea boot style in traditional black.
Delicate jewelry. Summer was about pops of color and chunky necklaces. Fall is for delicate chains in simple metals, think gold and rose gold to match the leaves. Stackable rings are fun, too, when you’re sipping on autumn lattes and hot tea.
